HDFC Platinum Plus Credit Card Review

HDFC Platinum Plus Credit Card is designed exclusively for people belonging to the elite section of the society. Designed for aristocrats the card offers luxury at every step. However, with this card luxury comes at a cost. Though the card has no Joining fee which is a rarity among Platinum cards it has an Annual fee of Rs 3999 which makes it one of the costliest cards on offer affordable only to a few.

As stated the card offers luxury at every step. For starters it has an extremely attractive Reward Points program giving the user an opportunity to earn four Reward points for every Rs 150 spent provided spends of above Rs. 20,000 in a statement cycle. Though the value of Reward points is not known Redemption is an exciting affair due to number of options available for redemption.

The card offers discount benefits in categories like shopping, dining and travel.

However, the card lacks some of the basic Platinum features like Golf course access to users, Access to Priority Pass, Airport lounge access, Insurance cover and Concierge service for Platinum customers. Lack of these features is a real setback for the success of the card and HDFC bank need to include these in its Platinum offering if it needs to compete with other Platinum offerings.

HDFC bank keeping in mind the card’s high costs has tried to offer few gimmicks in order to lure customers. However lack of Platinum features just cannot be compensated with gimmicks.

Nevertheless the card justifies its high cost by offering benefits on every possible purchase or expense.

HDFC Platinum Plus Credit Card can be compared to cards like HSBC Platinum Credit Card and RBS Platinum Gateway Credit Card. The card is at par with respect to charges but lacks far behind with regards to offerings. The interest rate charges are an important criterion with these sections of cards due to volume of transactions. The interest rate charged by HDFC Platinum Plus Credit Card is 3.15% p.m. which is competitive with regards to other two cards.
